| | This essay offers a detailed guide to critical reading of the medical literature.
It will offer advice on how to distinguish a good study from a poor one; how to assess the use of statistics within a paper; how to assess the studies design, and, in so doing, it allows readers to make the best use of their limited time. A formalized approach to reading and evaluating medical papers makes it much easier to compare the literature and, where findings appear contradictory, makes it easier to decide how much credit to assign to each paper.
