| | Relevant to nurses in haematology looking at the rationale for use of monoclonal antibodies in cancer treatment.
This is an in depth review of monoclonal antibodies which identifies the role of antibodies and how these roles can be either harnessed to act on cancer cells.
The paper identifies the licensed monoclonal antibodies currently in use for cancer therapy (Alemtuzumab (Campath), Rituximab (Mabthera), Trastuzumab (Herceptin), Gemtuzumab Ozogomicin (Myelotarg)) and the monoclonal antibodies currently under trial (Tositumomab, Hu1D10, Bevacizumab, Epratuzumab, BL22 and LMB-2, Edrecolomab and Oregovomab).
It is very interesting to see how many of these monoclonal antibodies are being trialled for use in haematology patients.
The paper considers the implications for nurses including considerations during administration.
